The Importance of Lymphatic Drainage

The lymphatic system is a very large and important part of our bodies, connecting our head to our toes and everything in between. A blocked system can be caused by a medical issue, but it can also be caused by lack of movement, stress, emotional trauma, lack of sleep, and dehydration. These are all very common issues that affect much of today’s population, so lymphatic drainage is important for just about everyone.

There are a couple of ways to stimulate lymphatic drainage, the most common being through massage. You can start anywhere on your body for this, but you will want to massage in consistent patterns aiming towards your armpits or your groin. This is where large systems of lymphnodes are, meaning this is where the excess fluids and toxins will find their way out of the body.

Other ways to aid in drainage are through dry brushing, daily movement, drinking sufficient amounts of water, and herbs! There are quite a few herbs that can help you out with issues with your lymphatic system: echinacea, astragalus root, calendula, dandelion, red clover, prickly ash bark, plantain, chapparal, and chickweed. These herbs help get blood flowing, reduce bloating and swelling, and move toxins through the body, all of which are going to assist you on cleansing your body of that unwanted, stagnant energy that can be so bad for your body.

You can make a tea with any of these herbs, or a combination of them, which will be a quick way to start introduction them into your daily diet. Or, you can make a tincture to get a strong, concentrated form of the plant’s medicine. Making a tincture will take a much longer time, but is so worth it for the benefits.
